Tomorrow--Wednesday, June 21--from 3:30 - 7:00 pm, the City of Plainfield is hosting the Free Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Kickoff community event at the Hannah Atkins Playground. There will be games, refreshments, and fun as we begin the summer. As noted by the Division of Parks and Recreation, which administers the program, Plainfield is second in Union County in successful delivery of meals to needy youth in the summer, but the goal is to do better this season. To that end, Recreation is recruiting "Hunger Heroes"--residents who agree to share the feeding site information on social media and via other means. The "Hunger Heroes" will receive a free "Hunger Hero" T-shirt while supplies last. Signups are at tomorrow's event. In addition, Recreation will be canvassing the city with Summer Food Program fliers on Thursday, June 22, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved--and, now that school is out, it's a great opportunity for community service for our kids. So, come help out, or send some young people to assist as we spread the word!
